Story of a nominated kid [2009]

Hamid had sent a nomination to MYF for this year. He didn’t say much about himself. But, to confirm his identity as a part of the process, one of the MYF members called a teacher who teaches in his high school.

The teacher said that his father left the family when Hamid was still infant and hadn’t returned since then and no contact with him. He left the family to mercy of fate and almighty God. The mother somehow managed the family by working as house-maid doing many odd jobs and somehow run the family with the little income she got. With the age catching up, she couldn’t work anymore.

The elder brother left his education to support the family. He is now rickshaw puller earning just enough to feed the family thereby give-up education completely.

Hamid hasn’t given up till. He is trying his very best to keep himself in the school. He is fighting his very best.

During the vacations, when all his friends were playing he would do a missing act. He was missing because he would go to work as manual labor [hazira] to earn money for his fees.

He has already forgotten what is meant by laughter at a very tender age. He is very intelligent and hardworking. He scored first class in HSLC inspite of all the hurdles. But, with this kind of hurdles facing every day, it is difficult to say how long he is going to fight (perhaps) a losing battle.
